The Next Next Seattle: New York Times Magazine (Dec. 1993)

What: Feature spread on the booming grunge rock scenes in several towns. It’s another chapter in the seemingly endless debate about “the next Seattle.”

So What: Lawrence, Kansas, is one of seven locations featured. Of course, there’s a reference to Paw, including the unfortunate hissy fits from some Lawrence townies about Paw’s success.

“… Paw, a local grunge band, signed to A&M Records last spring, and ‘there have been fistfights between Paw and other bands over the whole selling-out thing.’ Hyde [Matt; co-founder of Lotuspool Records] says. “Paw’s been on the road since April, and they have no desire to come back.”
